An educational institution is where the flowers of civilization are brought to bloom. Educational institutions are established to spread education and advance civilization. Following that tradition, the great national leader, former Prime Minister, and renowned politician Ataur Rahman Khan established Valum Ataur Rahman Khan Degree College in his local area. The torch of knowledge lit by that great man has been burning brightly for over three decades. I also pay my deep respects to the land donors of this institution and those great individuals who played a pioneering role during its founding.
Those of us associated with educational institutions, especially teachers, bear a social responsibility that is entirely different from the rest of society. People in other professions are not called the "architects of building human beings." Therefore, the honor that teachers receive must be reflected through the impact of their work. Since the ultimate purpose of education is to attain humanity, a teacher must continuously guide students toward achieving that goal. We need to further sharpen our consciousness by practicing human and social values. We must contemplate how to provide students with a true education and build their character through continuous innovation. Even in this age of Facebook and social media, there are countries in the world where students remain completely focused on books. Thus, we must open wide the doors to critical thinking and research.
The plan to transform Valum Ataur Rahman Khan Degree College into a model or ideal educational institution in the Dhamrai region cannot be implemented by a principal alone. It requires the collective effort of the governing body, teachers, parents, local civil society, and students. If this blueprint is implemented step-by-step, the college will emerge as an exemplary and ideal seat of learning—not just in Dhamrai, but across the entire Dhaka Division.
